PLASTIC           Newsletter           Introducing TIVAR®1000     anti-microbial          TIVAR® 1000 anti-microbial is a UHMW-PE material which achieves anti-microbial efficacy by adding active substances. As soon as bacteria and fungus are developing [in moisture and warmth], the anti-microbial efficacy of the material is activated effectively and permanently. TIVAR® 1000 anti-microbial is used in the food processing and medical industry as well as in the beverage and filling industry. This formulation is also available in PE 500 quality.          Killing Bacteria Finding the right UHMWPE! Property Profile • anti-microbial efficacy by added silver • approved for direct contact with food according to EFSA (European authority for food safety) 89/109/EG and FDA • high wear resistance • low coefficient of friction • good chemical resistance • no moisture absorption                 Effectiveness • TIVAR® 1000 anti-microbial works inside the cell walls of bacteria. The anti-microbial protection penetrates the cell wall and interrupts the metabolic process of microorganisms. The growth and reproduction of the bacteria are inhibited.          How is the polymer equipped with anti-microbial protection and how long is it effective? • The anti-microbial additive is mixed with the polymer powder [similar to the mixing process of colour pigments]. • A careful mixing process guarantees a homogenious mixture and a continuous protection even if the material wears out. • The anti-microbial efficacy is also kept if the material shows scratches, cuts or cracks. The difference between TIVAR® 1000 anti-microbial and disinfectants • Disinfectants have direct effect – but for a limited period of time. As soon as a sterilised surface has been dried or the used disinfectant has been washed away or evaporated, the bacteria will grow again on the same area. • TIVAR® 1000 anti-microbial works permanently – but cannot replace the usual cleaning.
